To gauge overall competition for a specific keyword, type it in the search box in Google or Yahoo and see how many advertisers are bidding on it.

On any specific competitor page, check keyword density (which keywords appear how often) using www.webuildpages.com/seo-tools/keyword-density You may also use this tool for your own website in addition to you competitor’s websites.

In Google/Yahoo/Microsoft, in the search box, enter: site:www.YourCompetitor.com to see which pages have been indexed. You may also use this on your own site in addition to competitor websites.
