1. Quality of back links is more important than quantity since search engines are specifically looking for links from highly trafficked sites and sites with related content. 
   
   
2. Provide a “Link to us” page with html code snippet with suggested links and anchor text. 
   
   
3. If you do link exchanges, note that too many link exchanges especially from low quality sites can be downgraded by the search engines. 
   
   
4. Naturally occurring link backs have variation in the anchor text, so ensure some variation in the anchor text of link backs otherwise the search engines will suspect that things are being artificially set up. 
   
   
5. If you do have an affiliate program (affiliates directing traffic to your site), as much as possible, ensure that link from the affiliate points to your site.  Note this is not always possible depending on the Affiliate platform being used.  One Affiliate Network that enables links back directly to your site is http://www.kolimbo.com
   
   
6. Consider using Link Broker Networks although Google frowns on this since these networks charge money to get you a link.  The money is then split with the site linking to you.  Some well known link broker networks are:

   b. www.TextLinkBrokers.com (in addition, they allow you to host an entire marketing page
   c. www.linkadage.com - buyers and sellers of links
   
   
7. Consider using link building software that can identify websites that should link to you (based on your own criteria) and then generate requests to these sites.  Some software to use:

8. Submit Internet based Press Releases – these will get you a spike in traffic and you also receive a link back.  If possible, include your URL twice, including once in the header.  Some Sites for Press Releases are:
